This article gives information about Ibn Abī Hātim al-Rāzī’s life, intellectual background, his works, and analyzes his aforementioned work and the scope and method of ‘Ilal al-hadīth. ![]() Ibn Abī Hātim al-Rāzī’s ‘Ilal al-hadīth has been chosen for this study since it is one of the first books written on ‘Ilal al-hadīth, and is well arranged. The books written in this field are the best works that demonstrate the meticulousness of hadīth scholars with respect to the knowledge related by the Prophet. ‘Ilal al-hadīth is a hadīth science which deals with hidden defects in hadīth that are not obvious at first glance, but affect the validity of hadīth. Bu makalede hayatı, ilmî kişiliği ve eserle- rinden hareketle İbn Ebî Hâtim er-Râzî tanıtılmakta ve mezkûr kitabın muhtevası, metodu incelenmekte, çalışmanın önemli iki kavramı mevsûl ve mürselin ‘İlelü'l-hadîs’te nasıl işlen- dikleri analiz edilmektedir. Bu araştırma için söz konusu alanda kaleme alınan ilk eserlerden birisi ve aynı zamanda tertibinin güzelliği nedeniyle İbn Ebî Hâtim er-Râzî’nin ‘İlelü’l-hadîs’i tercih edildi. The concluding chapter includes the evaluation of the findings of this study alongside suggestions for further study of this issue The chapter four questions the ‘agnates with the institution of patronage or relationship between a freed slave and his former master’ (‘Asbah i sababiyya) by focusing on their inheritance with this institution. The basic difference of this type agnate inheritance from the previous two is that it is about absolute male agnates (sons, father and further fathers of father, brothers, paternal uncles and their sons), whose relationship with the deceased is without an intervening female. The chapter three investigates the ‘agnates in his own right’ (‘Asbah bi Nafsihi) in view of the rules of this agnatic inheritance and arguments for and against it through examples. More, it lays out the problems of this agnatic inheritance. The next chapter discusses the ‘agnates in the right of another’ (‘Asbah ma’ Gahirihi) with special emphasis to the arguments for and against it. The first chapter analyzes the issue of ‘female agnates because of male agnates’ (‘Asbah bi Gahirihi), their agnatic inheritance and the outcomes of this inheritance. This study consists of an introduction chapter in addition to four main chapters and a concluding chapter. ![]() Moreover, it attempts to solve the problems relating to the agnatic inheritance in view of the inheritance clauses in the Qur’an and implementations of the Prophet (pbuh). The principal concern of this study is to determine and evaluate the arguments for and against the agnatic inheritance. The agnatic inheritance is the main difference between the Sunni Law Schools and Imami Law School. Agnatic Inheritance in the Islamic Law The purpose of this dissertation is to study agnates and their agnatic inheritance in Islamic Inheritance Law.
